De Garmo Jones advertises goods; A. C. Canniff, boots and shoes; I. O. & I. E. Schwars, fur and peltries; Oliver Newberry, general dealer, under the printing office; John Hale, general stock; William Brewster, large stock; F. F. & J. Palmer, general stock, brick store, where the Board of Trade building now is, and John I. Williams, general stock, corner Jefferson avenue and Bates street. George A. O'Keefe, long to be remembered for his wit and oddities, advertises a law partnership with Samuel T. Davenport. I. L. & H. S. Cole, the latter a talented and popular lawyer and an eloquent and pleasing speaker, advertise their office in the Steamboat hotel. Robert Stewart is made commissioner on the estate of John Gleason. Peter Van Every and Oliver Williams each paid $10 for tavern license. Melvin Dorr was licensed a retailer. The following names are appended to a call for a public meeting, August 10, 1821, to send Hon. Sol. Sibley as delegate to Congress: Daniel LeRoy, John Farrar, Jeremiah Moore, Melvin Dorr, Henry Sanderson, Charles Jackson, Levi Cook, J. L. Whitney, William Brewster, B. Woodworth, Chauncey S. Payne, Julius Eldred, Samuel Sherwood, Robert Smart, Samuel Ward, John Palmer, B. F. H. Witherell. The following names of prominent citizens were appended to a call for a public meeting: A. G. Whitney, George McDougall, John Hunt, J. Visger, J. Bartlett, O. W. Miller, William Durell, W. W. Petit, Joseph Campau, John Palmer, B. Stead, John McDonell, John Hale, George Leib, John J. Leib, Thomas Palmer, H. J. Hunt, James May, James Connor, Oliver Williams, James McCloskey, A. L. Williams.
